I and Myself. 1906.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Throne, July 21st, 1906," showing a Poem called "I and Myself."  Written by Elizabeth Seymour.

   I and Myself possess my Soul.
      Alas, poor hapless pair,
   Some tricky elf between them both
       Sowed discord ; crops of tare
   Grow now so thick in each one's heart
       That quarrels never cease,
   And cats and dogs now happy live
       Than twins who ne'er make peace.
   One self to heaven above doth soar,
        To earth the other clings,
   So warfare wages 'twirt them both
        And time no solace brings ;
   But worse and worse remains to tell,
        A third self now appears, 
   To judge between the other two,
       To each he lends his ears.
   he's buffeted with "Ifs" and "Buts,"
       In twain he's quickly torn,
   Till quite exhausted with the strife
       he's sorry "I" was born.


   Conclusion- if some gifted power
       Comes not to help and save,
    "I" shall a thousand selves become
       An insult I'll not brave.
     Good Messieurs "Me" make up your strife,
       "I" can no longer bear ye,
     Pray leave me one good honest self,
        Myself with none to share me  !
