For Sale is a Full Page removed from "Father Christmas - The Children's Casket of Pictures for 1892-93," produced by "The Illustrated London News," showing an Engraving with the Following Poetry beneath called "The Sailor's Wife."
Artist- Fannie Moody.

"Why are you crying, dear mistress ?
Why do you look so sad ?
Did you have news in the paper,
And is it bad news you've had ?
You won't even pat our heads
Or move when we lick your hand ;
Tell us the trouble, dear mistress,
I'm sure we should understand !

"For when you were glad, dear mistress,
And our master used to come,
We always new as well as you
What days he would be at home ;
And when he left us, dear mistress,
And his ship sailed far away,
We understood all your trouble then,
And we all of us cried that day.

"If it's something you read in the paper,
It oughtn't to make you grieve,
For i hear there are things in the papers
That nobody need believe.
And I've been an editor's dog in my time,
I know more of papers than you-
Why, there's master's step on the path outside
So you see that it wasn't true !"
