Watching American Beauties. The "Les Girls of 1934" First Night at the Dorchester,

One of the largest Parties at the opening night of the 1934 version of "Les Girls" was brought by Lord and Lady Charles Cavendish. It occupied at least four tables, and included Major "Fruity" Metcalf's wife (Looking Delightful) and Lady Charles Cavendish's brother and sister-in-Law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Astaire, Lord portarlington was another guest ; though seemingly serious when facing the camera he was otherwise in good heart. Many people had come on from attendng the premiere of "The Constant Nymph" which, incidentally, proved another big success for Gaumont British.  Miss Gertrude Lawrence, however, being otherwise engaged with nymph errantry, came straight to the Dorchester from the Adelphi.  Opinions will probably differ as to how the new show compares with its predecessor, but the dancing of Miss Mitzi Mayfair is the goods all right.  This youg lady is reported to earn £10,000 a year in New York.
