   1- One of the most effective left-handed batsmen cricket has seen of late years. If only fairly successful for Harrow and Oxford, H. T. Hewett had an exceptionally brilliant record with the Somersetshire Eleven subsequently. Of his many notable performances with the bat, his best, perhaps, was at Taunton, for Somersetshire against Yorkshire, on August 26th, 1892.  On that occasion he scored 201, and his peartnership with L. C. H. Palairet, which produced 346 runs as the record for the first wicket in first-class matches. A batsman with remarkable batting powers, and scores at a tremendous rate whenreally set. Captained the Somersetshire Eleven for a time with judgment.  Unluckily increasing work at the Bar has compelled him to relinquish first-class cricket, a great loss tothe game.
