The Desirability of the Unattainable as told in "Caroline" at the New Theatre. 1916.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Graphic, February 26th, 1916," showing the Following 6 Photographs for "The Desirability of the Unattainable as Told in "Caroline" at the New Theatre.

   a- Caroline Ashley  (Miss Irene Vanbrugh) was a grass-widow who lived in Regent's Park while her husband stayed in Africa.
   b- Robert Oldham, barrister (Mr. Leonard Boyne) was a close (though platonic) friend of Caroline during her ten years'grass-widowhood, looking daily at the "Times" for her husband's death, so that he might marry her.  When the husband did die (at Nairobi) neither Robert nor Caroline wanted to get married and became miserable.
   c- Caroline's Two Friends (Miss Nina Sevening, Miss Lillah McCarthy) congratulate her on her chance of marrying again.
   d- Caroline felt out of sorts at the prospect of having to marry Robert, and consulted her maid Cooper (Miss Florence Lloyd), who gave her experience of bringing her "young man" to heel.
   e- Caroline who consulted her doctor (Mr. Dion Boucicault), who siggested that what was troubling her was really Anno Domini.  Caroline is seen here looking for confirmation in her glass.
   f- The Strong-Minded Spinster Maude Fulton (Miss Lillah McCarthy) insisted on Caroline's marriage with Robert.
   g- The difficulty of Robert and Caroline's position was solved by the doctor announcing, to the amazement of everybody, including young Rex Cunningham, who had also wooed Caroline and cried off,  that Ashley was not dead at all (though he really was), and the status quo was regained to the delight of everybody.  The desirable again became unobtainable.`
