The new Viceroy and Governor-General of India is to be Lord Chelmsford, G.C.M.G., in succession to Lord Hardinge, who retires from his office at the end of March. Lord Chelmsford is the eldest son of the second Baron Chelmsford, who commanded the British forces in the Kaffir and Zulu wars, and grandson of the Right Hon. Sir Frederick Thesiger, Lord Chancellor and first Baron Chelmsford.  The coming Viceroy was born in 1868, and succeeded to the title in 1905.  From 1905 to 1909 he was Governor of Queensland, and from 1909 to 1913 Governor of New South Wales.
