                 At Monday's Sales.- Some Famous Winners under the Hammer.
   a- The Late Mr. W. Brodrick Cloete's Cherimoya (winner of the Oaks of 1911), with bay colt by Cicero :  bought by Sir Thomas Dewar for 2,300 gns.
   b- The Late Lord Cadogan's  The Curragh, by Spearmint-Currajong :  sold to Mr. W. F. Smith for 1,500 gns.
   c- The Late Capt. the Hon. W. R. Wyndham's The White Knight (the dual Ascot Gold Cup Winner) : Bought by Mr. H. Sadler for 4,100 gns.
  d- Viewing the lots.
  e- Maya, by Desmond-Gyp, a Newbury Cup winner, in her box :  bought by Mr. H. Powney for 100gns.

                                                            Races.
   a- The Start of the Beaufort Stakes, won by Mr. A. E. Barton's Tosson.
   b- The start of the Handicap for horses trained north of the Trent, won by Mr. G. Smith's Sally Crag.
   c- Two furlongs from home in the Trial Plate, won by Mr. R. McCreery's Guenoc.
   d- Mr. E. Tanner's Carancho (C. Foy up), who ran third in the Dullingham Plate, carrying 9st. 13lb.
   e- Telephoning for the draw for the starter, Mr. Arthur Coventry.
   f- Shoeing Mr. E. Hulton's Fairy King after his easy win in the Dullingham Plate.

The Remount can scarcely be said to join in the general eagerness to wear a Badge denoting War Service. All Government horses sre branded on the Quarters with a Broad Arrow.  A Large c ("cast") being added on the near shoulder if the animal is subsequently rejected for unsoundness or other reasons.  It is amusing to see the startling suddenness with which a sleepy and unsuspecting horse is galvanised into extreme animation by the application of the Branding Iron.  It is also curious to note the difference in intelligence among horses waiting their turn.  Some object to come near the Brander after seeing a previous victim jump ; others remain entirely unsuspecting though the operation has gone on under their very eyes.

Condition is Very Good.
