The Tale of a Stubborn Mount. 1915.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, November 6th, 1915," showing the Following 12 Drawings by J. W. Dowd telling the story called "The Tale of a Stubborn Mount : "Down the Road He Would Not Go."

   1- The Mount Arrives.
   2- He Suddenly becomes Possessed of that tired Feeling.
   3- Tommy is "not goin' to stand no nonsense."
   4- No Good.  So he tried to make Friends.
   5- Still Adamant.
   6- An officer has a Shot.
   7- Hopeless.
   8- Tommy, determined to try again, Lights a Cigarette to show Nonchalance.
   9- Another Officer rounds him up.
  10- Then gives him a send-off.
  11- Thirty Yards Further Down.
  12- Victory and Home-----for the Mount!.

Reverse side shows a Full Page Drawing by Lionel Edwards, called "England Home, and .  .  . Pheasants."

Perhaps one of the most notable traits of character in the British Officer is his restlesness.  After hard work in the trenches or at home training, his welcome leave, instead of being spent in rest, is passed in energatic sport-shooting or hunting, &c.  His "batman" (Servant) is here depicted as loader.  The soldier servant is as keen on sport as his master, and soldier "loaders" are quite a common feature at a "shoot" in these days.
