This play, by Melchior Lengyel, was produced last Wednesday at the Haymarket.  It concerns the doings of a colony of Japanese people living in Paris, and the story is built on the contrast between the Oriental characters lacquered over the Western Civilisation, but retaining their native ideals, and the Western milieu in which they find themselves.  Miss Hackney is shown as the temptress, who accomplishes the ruin of the student Takeramo (Mr. Laurence Irving), and who is strangled by him.
