The Trials and Troubles of a Would-Be Expert. 1906.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, January 20th, 1906," showing the Following 8 illustrations drawn by Ralph Cleaver, called "The Trials and Troubles of a Would-Be Expert."

   a- Stung by the reproach that the modern youth has become a mere spectator of Sports, Arthur Clarencieux decides to become an active participator.
   b- Choosing Rugby for his initial efforts he is astonished to find it a bit rougher than he liked.
   c- Association therefore attracted him - A hack or two however disillusioned him as to its gentleness.
   d- Lacrosse looked simple - but the manipulation of the Crosse & want of "wind' prove insurmountable obstacles.
   e- In the Hockey field his Shins are always in the way and he again suffers from a bad "stitch"
   f- He then tries Hunting. But no "Two Guinea" mount could ever be persuaded to accompany him over a jump.
   g- His last attempt was Shooting and this would probably have satisfied him had he not had the misfortune to hit everything except those he aimed at and solatiums proved rather to expensive.
   h- He has therefore resumed his "Metier" of mere spectator, reflecting it's better to stick to the ills we have than go to those we wot not of.
