The story is of Stubbs's heroic attempts to save the foolish Lady Hermione from moral disaster and physical drowning, from both of which dangers, however, her ladyship coolly extricates herself.

   a- The ladies' bootmaker, Roland Stubbs (Mr. James Welch), while fitting Lady Hermione (Miss Gertrude Kingston), relates the incident which caused him to make her his ideal in life- an ideal so bracing in his business energies that he is now making £4,000 a year.
   b- Miss Estelle Winwood as Flitton, Lady Hermione's maid.
   c- Miss Irene Rooke as Mrs. Treviss, who betrays her friend Hermione for Dellow's gold.
   d- The Journalist (Mr. G. F. Folly) examining the boatman (Mr. Leonard Calvert, in the presence of the innkeeper (Mr. C. Dagnall), as to Lady Hermione's mysterious accident.
   e- Stubbs to his shopgirls :- "Whats' the matter with your figure Miss Littlewood?"
   f- The villain, Willie Dellow (Mr. Eille Norwood), to Stubbs, who is trying to prevent Dellow's getting Lady Hermione (Stubbs) ; ideal) on board his yacht alone ; "You damned little shoemaker !"
   g- Stubbs, to Lady Hermione, when it appears certain that the scandal concerning her will be printed : "Remember when we were swimming to the pierhead together.  You did not sink then ; you shall not sink now if i can help it."
