Golden Eagle and Wild Geese.- A Scene in the Highlands. 1906.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, April 7th, 1906," showing a Landscape Drawing by G. E. Lodge for "Golden Eagle and Wild Geese.- A Scene in the Highlands."

A Correspondent writes :- "Landseer never had a finer moment subject than the extraordinary incident in Rothiemurchus Forest, which was seen by our friend Sandy McKenzie.  While out stalking in Coire Dhoundail, in October, 1904, he sighted some stags, but as they were in a 'bad' place, he sent a gillie to 'move' them.  Then 'a strange thing happened'- a gaggle of wild geese (twenty-one in number) crossing the forest from north to south came on the scene, as simultaneously appeared two eagles and the 'moved' deer. The geese had had no idea of eagles being in the vicinity, and so their cries of fear were correspondingly loud.  The stalk was, of course, lost, but that was of little consequence in such unprecedented circumstances. The geese also escaped-all but one poor unfortunate, which fell into the loch."
