   a- Boats going to the start.
   b- New College (which bumped University), going down to the start (1st division).
   c- The 2nd division passing the college barges.
   d- New bump University (1st division).
   e- A good race between Wadham and St. Edmund's Hall.
   f- The boats on the river.
   g- Crossing the river.

Reverse side shows a Drawing by Sheldon Williams for "The Naval and Military Tournament at Olympia.- Tilting in Tudor Times."

The "spectacle of ancient chivalry" above illustrated is one of the leading features of this tournament, which has this year quitted "merrie Islington" for Kensington.  The clash of arms itself is less important than the gorgeous mounting of the whole scene, which covers the entire floor of the arena, and results in a multi-coloured picture equally authentic in detail and imposing in general effect.
