   a- The farm manager, Robert Waring (Mr. Hy. Ainley), who objects to the whipping of Kaffirs, and the brutal Boer farmer, Simeon Krillet (Mr. Norman McKinnel), who interprets his Bible with savage exactness.
   b- Krillet, the Boer farmer, hears his young wife (Miss Lena Ashwell) confess her love for the Englishman, Waring, and resolves to shoot her.  Handing her the book :  "Take it.  Your soul cries for light !"
   c- Miss Beryl Mercer as Memke, a general servant on the farm and a frequent sufferer from Krillet's whip.
   d- Robert Waring (Mr. Henry Ainley) telling the tragedy of his married life in England to Deborak Krillet (Miss Lena Ashwell).- Deborah :  "You don't know what a difference your being here means to us."
   e- Deborah, on hearing the pistol shots when Robert Waring kills her husband, who had first fired at him :  "Which one, dear god, which one ?".
