St. Patrick's Day with the Wounded from the Front : In the Hospital at Pietermaritzburg. 1900.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Graphic, April 28th, 1900," showing a Drawing by R. W. Macbeth, A.R.A. from a Sketch by Agnes M. Johnstone showing "St. Patrick's Day with the Wounded from the Front :  In the Hospital at Pietermaritzburg."

Some 1,200 men were in hospital at Pietermaritzburg on St. Patrick's Day, and a large number of them were Irishmen.  Every effort was made to render the day happy for them.  Ladies visited the hospital and distributed shamrock, and the Irish generally agreed that it was a "saint's day entirely."  The convalescents were entertained in the afternoon in the grounds of St. Anne's College, and the girls of the College, dressed in white, waited on the soldiers, who seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly.
