The Strange Story of the Goose Girl. - Painted by Val Prinsep. 1901.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Sphere, December 7th, 1901," showing a Picture called "The Strange Story of the Goose Girl.- Painted by Val prinsep."

This picture, which hangs in the Walker Art Gallery, is reproduced by permission of the Liverpool Corporation.  The story of the goose girl, as related by Grimm, tells how a beautiful young princess accompanied by her maid set forth to marry a prince.  She lost a magic blood-stained handkerchief, the gift of her mother.  The maid therefore got complete mastery over the princess and made her exchange places.  So when they came to the prince's palace the maid masqueraded as the bride and the princess was sent to tend geese.  The prince's father, however, found out the truth and restored the queenly goose girl to her proper place.
