1- William McGregor Hemingway.
An excellent record at Uppingham School was the qualification W. M. HEMINGWAY possessed for a trial at Cambridge in 1893.   The Freshmen that year were only a moderate lot, and HEMINGWAY was like the majority unsuccessful.  Nor was he within measurable distance of his blue last year, for, although he played a useful innings of 39 (not out) for the Next Sixteen against the First Eleven he never got a trial.  Meanwhile he had been tried for Gloucestershire, but here, too, with only partial success.  This summer he was fortunate enough to get his Blue, and his 57 in the first innings of Cambridge was not only the highest score, but one of the brightest and most attractive displays of batting on the side in the inter-University match.  If he once gets used to the bowling he is sure to be dangerous, as he has plenty of strokes and can hit freely all round.  In the field he is always reliable.

2- Harold Arthur Arkwright.
In H. A. ARKWRIGHT the Eton Eleven of 1891 had one of the best Public School Cricketers of the year.  His all-round cricket was quite the feature of the Winchester match, for besides scoring 59 and 44 he took four Winchester wickets.  Though unsuccessful in the Freshmen's match at Oxford, in 1893, he played two very useful innings for sixteen Freshman against the Eleven a few days later, with, as the result, a trial in some of the University matches.  Against the Australian Team his all-round cricket was particularly noticeable, but still he failed to get his blue either in that or the following year.  Though singularly unsuccessful in the Inter-University match, his bowling throughout this summer has been of great use to Oxford, as shown by the fact that he got the largest number of wickets of any bowler.
