1- John Bonamy Challen.
An old Marlburian, J. B. CHALLEN first came into prominence as a Cricketer during the early part of his Mastership at Wellingborough Grammar School.  A succession of high scores there made it a certainty that he would have a trial in a higher class of cricket.  The opportunity came to him in the Somersetshire Eleven, of which for several years he was one of the mainstays, and is still a most useful member.  For a time, indeed, he was nearly if not quite in the front rank of Amateur players.  A free bat, with an excellent style, his batting was as effective as it was attractive, and he generally made his runs at a good pace.  A fine field anywhere, he was almost worth a place in any Eleven, if only for his out cricket.  As an Association Footballer he won International honours.

2- Thomas William Garrett.
Though it is seventeen years since he visited England as a member of the first Australian Team, T. W. GARRETT is still playing a useful part in Australian cricket, and playing the game with all the same keenness as of old.  In his day one of the best all-round Cricketers in New South Wales, he did excellent service in the Inter-Colonial matches against Victoria for a number of years.  The earlier Australian Teams, too, found him one of their best workers as well as one of quite their most reliable men.  A fast round-arm bowler, of excellent length and not only using his head, but able to make the ball do something, he was generally effective, on certain wickets very deadly.  With no lack of hit, he was moreover a useful batsman at all times, and in addition a sure and hardworking field.  A thorough sportsman, he was very popular with English Cricketers and the English public.
