1- John Michael Meldon.
A keen sportsman in every sense, J. M. MELDON is a good specimen of the best type of Irish Cricketers.  Dublin University has reason to be proud of him as one of the most distinguished of the many excellent all-round players whose cricket training it has helped to perfect.  The Gentlemen of Ireland have found him, too, in their last two or three trips to the United States, one of their most reliable men, both in batting and bowling.  On English grounds he is moreover well known, not only as a useful all-round Cricketer, but also as a tactful and capable Captain.  A sound bat with plenty of freedom, he scores fast when in the humour.  Nor in the field is he out of place anywhere, being sure as well as smart.

2- John Holland.
Though only twenty-six years of age, HOLLAND'S connection with Leicestershire cricket already extends over a period of seven summers.  Commencing in 1889, his record has shown a steady development up to the present time.  So far his best record as a batsman was in 1893, in which year he had the distinction of being at the head of the batting tables of Leicestershire, with an excellent average of over twenty-three runs for twenty-six completed innings, among them two excellent scores of 88 (not out) and 72 against Warwickshire and Notts respectively.  A batsman with sound defence, and watching the ball very carefully, he takes a lot of getting out at all times.  In the field he is reliable in any position.
