2- Tom, the sweep, is ill-used by his master, Grimes, while the fairy interposes.
3- Tom begins his wanderings.
4- Owing to his descent of a wrong chimney Tom finds himself in Ellie's room and sees himself in a mirror for the first time. The alarm caused by this intrusion into the household leads to his pursuit.
5- Tom finally finds shelter in the dame's cottage.
6- Having jumped into the river, he is now scene in the realm of the water babies, where he is ordered for his redemption to undertake the quest of his master, Grimes, who is fastened in a chimney at the other end of Nowhere. In our picture Tom has reached the barrier of the shiny wall, where Mother Carey encourages him on his way.
