On March 17th, Prince Henry of Prussia first set foot on Chinese soil-that is, if we allow Shameen, which is British, to be regarded as Chinese soil.  The Prince arrived in the river steamer Hankow in the afternoon, accompanied by a suite of five officers. As the steamer came into the harbour an Admiral's Salute of eighteen guns was fired from a Chinese gunboat.  After the German Consul had been on board and greeted the Prince, the party landed and was conducted to the Consulate, the avenue thither being guarded by Chinese soldiers.
