"The Queen" : A Toast in the Sudan : A Sketch in the Suakin Brigade Mess. 1898.

For Sale is a Double Page from "The Graphic, June 11th, 1898," showing a Drawing by Frank Dadd, from a sketch by W. T. Maud, called "The Queen" : A Toast in the Soudan : A Sketch in the Suakin Brigade Mess."

During the drinking of Her Majesty's health at mess at Suakin, the pipers of the 4th Egyptian Battalion, seven in number, marched round the table.  The 4th is the only regiment of the Egyptian Army that has the distinction of preserving a body of pipers.  The pipers were introduced by Colonel Hachett Payne, when he was in command of the regiment.  The Egyptian has, under tuition, acquired in no small degree the imposing swing and martial air of the Highland piper.

Condition is Very Good, with binding holes which are in the margins only.
