A newspaper correspondent has recently pointed out that it is difficult to realise the lack of privacy exhibited at the royal palace of Madrid. People may stroll about anywhere they please, and even immediately beneath the windows of the royal apartments. During the last few weeks the crowd has been unusually large, and our artist caught it at a typical moment in the morning when he made his sketches for this picture. The palace stands in the west of the city and was built (1738 - 65) at a cost of £3,000,000 from the designs of an Italian.

Condition is Very Good, with small binding holes showing.
