Mr. Sargent, the son of a Boston physician, born at Florence in 1856, has settled permanently in London. He became an A.R.A. in 1894. Mrs. Russell, whom he has painted, is the wife of the Hon. Charles Russell, the second son of the late Lord Chief Justice. She is a Welshwoman, the daughter of the late Mr. William Williams of Glanmawddach, Dolgelly, was married in 1889, and has an only daughter. Her husband, who is remarkably like his father, is a prosperous solicitor.
