Palace of Peace at the Hague : M. Nelidoff Laying the Foundation Stone. 1907

For Sale is a Full Page Photograph taken from "The Sphere," August 10th, 1907 called "The Palace of Peace at the Hague," showing "M. Nelidoff Laying the Foundation Stone."

The Foundation Stone of the Palace of Peace, which is to be erected by Mr. Andrew Carnegie as a permanent home for the Hague international tribunal on ground given by the Dutch Government, was laid on July 30 by the president of the conference, M. Nelidoff. The building will stand at a corner of the finely-wooded Zorgvliet Park, occupying altogether thirteen and a half acres. The plans of Louis Cordonnier of Lille, selected out of 216 designs and reproduced in these columns the other day, will have to be modified owing to the expense. The Foundation ceremony was opened by the singing of the "Hallelujah" chorus, and was concluded with Mozart's "Hymn" and Wagner's "Wach' auf! es nahet gen den Tag." The Foundation stone bears the following inscription : "paci justitia Firmandae hanc aedem Andreae Carnegii munificentia dedicavit"
