Midnight Attack on Portsmouth. 1907

For Sale is a Full Page taken from "The Sphere," September 7th, 1907, showing a Drawing by Charles Wyllie of "A Midnight Attack on Portsmouth : Navy v. Army in the glare of Searchlight."

The defences of Portsmouth were manned on August 28, the Naval and Military authorities acting jointly in the operatons of ten days' duration. During the Mobilisation the Royal Garrison Artillery have manned the Guns in the Forts day and night, while a force of eight destroyers and eight torpedo-boats represented the enemy. The examination service was also put into operation, a number of coastguard and other officers being told off for special duty, some on board gunboats in Sandown Bay and others at different points along the coast but near to Portsmouth.
